Coalescing cartridge

Renault Trucks Offer

In the compressor, as the air is compressed, the lubricating oil degrades, releasing aggressive oxidized oil vapors mixed with discharged air.

These vapors could pass through the desiccant and migrate into the brake circuit, damaging the elastomer seals on the pneumatic valves. This would lead to circuit malfunction.

The coalescing cartridge overcomes this problem by filtering out oil vapors, oil, water and particles.

Renault Trucks recommends regular replacement of the coalescing cartridge, depending on use (see your maintenance plan), for optimum brake system maintenance.

Key arguments

Easier assembly
  • Seals adapted to the design of the desiccator.
  • Renault Trucks specific tools to replace the cartridge.
The best protection of the braking system
  • 90% of the oil retained (up to 3 times more than the competition).
  • Scale-tight sieve.
The service in addition
  • 2 years warranty.
  • Start & Drive contracts for worry-free maintenance.
  • Typical packages to offer turnkey solutions to customers.
  • 24/7 service.
Easier assembly

It has been observed that the seals integrated in competing cartridges were sometimes different from the Renault Trucks seals.

The fitting tests of the adaptable cartridges showed that this one was much more difficult with an unsuitable seal. Renault Trucks has also developed a bayonet system which makes it easier to remove the cartridge to be replaced.

Genuine part vs Adaptable part

Renault Trucks has also developed a bayonet system which makes it easier to remove the cartridge to be replaced.

The best protection of the braking system

Renault Trucks cartridges retain 90% of the oil compared to 30% for adaptable parts. The use of these will have a long-term impact on the longevity of other components in the brake system, with additional maintenance costs for the vehicle owner. For example, the replacement of the dryer or of an EBS valve costs more than 1,200 € when the cartridge represents a hundred euros.

The sieve integrated into the cartridge is composed of 2 layers. This helps retain carbon (burnt oil) which could damage the components of the brake system. On adaptable parts, this screen is often composed of a single thickness: the scale seal is less effective, and the risk of damaging other parts is greater.

Customer benefits

Serenity
  • Activity is preserved and maintenance anticipated thanks to compliance with the maintenance plan.
  • No unforeseen breakage thanks to the filtration of the scale.
security
  • Braking performance guaranteed even in winter thanks to the absence of water in the circuit.
Savings
  • Replacing the cartridge follows the intervals of the defined maintenance plan.
  • No breakdown of brake circuit components thanks to optimal filtration.
Serenity

Renault Trucks coalescing cartridges have their oil filter placed before the desiccant. This is not the case with some adaptable parts. If the oil filter is placed after the desiccant, the oil passes into the desiccant and saturates it faster. This reduces the life of the cartridge.

The sieve supplied with the cartridge protects the Air Production Modulator (APM) purge valve from scale (residual burnt oil). Without the strainer, the APM can fail, leaving the air supply to the reservoirs cut off.

On adaptable parts, this screen is often composed of a single thickness: the scale seal is less effective, the risk of damaging other parts is greater.

security

An adaptable coalescing cartridge sometimes contains up to 15% less desiccant than a Genuine Renault Trucks cartridge. It therefore saturates faster. The risk is that the cartridge will then allow more water to pass into the brake circuit. In winter, this water can freeze and prevent effective braking.

Don't compromise on safety!

Savings

By filtering 90% of the oil (vs. 30% for certain adaptable parts), with 17% more desiccant, a suitable sieve and a relief valve, the Renault Trucks coalescing cartridge protects the other components of the brake system. It is then sufficient to carry out the recurring operations recommended in the personalized maintenance plan.

FAQ

Since this part is replaced regularly, I prefer to spend less with an adaptable part.

Coalescing cartridges play an essential protective role in the brake system. Adaptable parts have been found to have up to 15% less desiccant. A saturated cartridge will no longer play its protective role, which creates a risk for the other parts of the brake system.

The additional costs could go up to 12,000 € instead of the hundred euros of the cartridge. Keep in mind that a less efficient cartridge also lets more water through. In winter, this can freeze in the circuit and affect braking. Don't compromise on safety!

I find that the cartridge must be replaced too often, I prefer to space out the maintenances to save money.

The maintenance intervals recommended by the personalized maintenance plan have been calculated according to the specific use of each vehicle. A coalescing cartridge that is not replaced on time will likely be saturated with water and no longer play its role in the brake system. Several possible consequences:

  • water passes through the circuit and can freeze in winter, preventing effective braking;
  • water and oil being less well filtered, they pass through the circuit and can damage other components. The costs associated with their replacement are much more expensive than simple maintenance.

Following the maintenance recommendations makes it possible to guarantee the proper functioning of the vehicle and to avoid additional damage.
